Trial Begins for Michael Baptist Accused of Stabbing Man 27 Times

The trial of Michael Baptist, charged with stabbing a man 27 times, began in the High Court of Belize today. Baptist appeared before Justice of Justice Nigel Pilgrim answering to a charge of dangerous harm. He is being represented in the case by attorney Norman Moore, while Glendord Dennison is prosecuting the case. Baptist is accused of attacking 57-year-old Eugene Webster also known as Fat Back, inside his Los Lagos home on July 6, 2016. Webster took the stand today and testified that he was in his home sleeping when Baptist, the son of the woman he was dating at the time, attacked him and stabbed him. He further testified that the day before the incident, Baptist had visited his home to wash his car, but someone else had already washed it, so he gave Baptist some money to go back home. The prosecution closed its case after calling its last witness late this evening, and the trial has been adjourned for November 24, when the defense will present its case.
