Trial Ends for Belizean Charged with Shooting at Police Officer

The trial of Belize City resident, Earl Baptist, who is charged with shooting at a police officer ended today. Baptist appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court charged with one count of aggravated assault with a firearm against Police Constable Darrel Myers. The prosecution closed its case against him today but in his defense, Baptist chose to remain silent. The magistrate has reserved judgment for September 20. Baptist was further remanded to the Belize Central Prison. Baptist is also on remand on a charge of murder for the January 2021 shooting of Leslie Gillett.
