Trio Village Farmers to Enjoy Improved Infrastructure in their Village.

Farmers from Trio Village, Toledo will be benefiting from improved infrastructure in their rural community. This month, the government inked a contract with A&N Construction Limited to upgrade 3.9 miles of the village’s farm road. The BZ$1.86-million-dollar contract is a part of the Resilient Rural Belize (RRB) project, which seeks to transform the country’s agriculture sector by supporting small farmers. Trio Village is home to dozens of farmers who produce pineapples, cocoa, plantains, and citrus for the local and international markets, signifying the importance of the road upgrade. The project is expected to cut operational costs, decrease food waste, and lessen vehicular repairs for farmers transporting goods. Additionally, the RRB project has signed a matching grant agreement with the Los Buenos Amigos Co-operative Society Limited of Trio Village to assist the cooperative with the construction of a water facility, a storage/packing shed, climate-friendly irrigation implements as well as capacity building efforts for the cooperative itself. According to the government, the RRB project intends to spend almost $3 million in the community to uplift the lives of its residents.
