Triple Murder Case: Jared Ranguy Faces Decision as Court Delivers Life Sentence Indication

Jared Ranguy remains behind bars tonight, and now has to contemplate whether he will enter a guilty plea for a triple murder he allegedly committed back in November 2012.  The 33-year-old has been on remand since, after the authorities charged him for killing his mother, Abigail Skeen; his stepfather, Robert Skeen and his sister, Teena Skeen.  Today in the Belize High Court, Justice Nigel Pilgrim delivered a sentence indication, essentially telling Ranguy that should he decide to enter a guilty plea, he could face three life sentences without the possibility of parole until after 40 years.  The ball is now in Ranguy’s court and that of his attorney, Godfrey Smith on whether they will opt to go to trial, or enter a guilty plea.  Ranguy is accused of shooting his sister twice, stabbing his mother 33 times then shooting her, and shooting his stepfather three times.  The three were reportedly asleep in their Ladyville home when Ranguy allegedly killed them.  Ranguy’s case has seen its ups and downs as the previous judge, Justice Ricardo O’Neal Sandcroft, had recused himself, delaying the trial which was to start last year.  Noteworthy is that Ranguy had changed attorneys multiple times over the past decade.  Ranguy is expected back in court on March 15.  If he chooses a guilty plea, he would be eligible for parole in 28 years and nine months as he has already been on remand for just over 11 years.
