Twentyold Fausto Teck Charged for the Murder of Chris Rodriguez

Twenty-year-old Fausto Teck who fatally stabbed 19-year-old Chris Rodriguez has been charged with murder. Rodriguez and Teck got into a physical fight on Tuesday evening at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio, Cayo. During that fight, Rodriguez was stabbed and died the following day. New cell-phone video shows that Rodriquez punched Teck, causing the fight to escalate. We asked Police Commissioner Chester Williams about it.
Chester Williams, Belize Police Department: “It’s a rather unfortunate situation. It’s sad because, you know, we live in a society where we’re not seeing much of our young people engaged in positive activities like sports and so to see that a young man died trying to engage in a positive activity like sports, it’s heart wrenching. It ought not to have happened but it did and I want to offer my sincere condolences to the family for such a great loss. The young man seems to have had great potential in football. I don’t know where he would have ended up and that was cut short.”

Reporter: Do you know if Faustus Tek, the person who allegedly stabbed Chris Rodriguez has been charged or will be charged?

Chester Williams, Belize Police Department: “He is in police custody. Due to the circumstances under which the incident occurred, he is claiming self defence. The file has to go to the D.P.P. office and I believe that was done yesterday so hopefully by the end of today we should be getting a feedback from the Office of the D.P.P. or her rep in the west, giving us directive in terms of how to proceed.

Reporter: There’s new video emerging, that emerged last night, showing that it was the victim who threw the first punch. That will play a major role in the investigation.

Chester Williams, Belize Police Department: “Certainly, yes it will but I’m not going to comment any further on it. I’ll just leave it at that and I’ll just leave it for the D.P.P. or her rep. to decide.”
