In other news from the Belmopan City Council, two members of staff were terminated earlier this month. Initial reports were that the employees were let go due to their participation in the Innovabel Estate purported fraudulent transactions. Mayor Pablo Cawich clarified the basis of the termination, saying that it was more a matter of loyalty.

Pablo Cawich, Mayor of Belmopan City: “I wouldn’t say it’s related to the investigations. We have let go two individuals that, well we have a lot of internal staff who received a parcel in this program some of them with gross discounts, some of them without any discount and again as I mentioned we’re not trying to take away the opportunity from anyone all we’re asking for is that the true value be paid. So in a case where some of the employees who had received grossly discounted lands what we explained to them was that you knowing and willing participated in a program that cost a loss of revenue to the council. Loss of assets to any company or organization is a serious offense. We asked these individuals to please justify your participation, explain why we should still trust in you. Most of the individuals responded except two and those two individuals were eventually we parted ways based on the grounds that you failed to explain why we should trust you and obviously if you aren’t even willing to discuss the mater you cannot have the council’s best interest at heart.”
The Innovabel Estate Development sits on 100 acres of land and is located in the Salvapan area of Belmopan.
