A road traffic incident along the Philip Goldson Highway has claimed the lives of two men from Rhaburn Ridge, Belize District. The incident occurred last night around six thirty near mile 28, in the vicinity of Biscayne Village. Information from Police indicate that the fatalities were the result of a collision between a goods truck and a motorcycle carrying two male individuals. Upon arrival at the scene, authorities observed a white Heno goods truck approximately three feet off the right-hand side of the highway. Nearby, a red Meilun motorcycle was found extensively damaged. About 35 feet from the wreckage, the bodies of two Hispanic males were discovered, both appearing motionless and bearing severe bodily injuries. The deceased men have since been identified as 34-year-old Josue Solis, a construction worker, and his 18-year-old brother, Felipe Solis, a student. According to police investigations, 39-year-old Melvin Harris of Double Head Cabbage was driving the white Heno goods truck, property of Price Premier Rice, and was coming from Corozal heading to Belize City. Upon reaching the area, Harris reportedly encountered a series of large potholes spanning the width of the highway. While attempting to navigate the damaged road, he momentarily lost control of the vehicle. It was at that moment that the red motorcycle, reportedly traveling from the opposite direction, swerved into the truck’s lane and collided with the front left bumper, resulting in the fatal crash. The impact was so severe that both riders were pronounced dead at the scene. /////
