Two men die after colliding into parked vehicle on the Southern Highway

Two men, travelling on separate motorcycles, have died in a road traffic incident. It happened last night between eight and eight-thirty last night. According to reports, both men were traveling from Santa Cruz Village to Placencia when they collided into a parked vehicle. The men, 20-year-old Alex Duncan and 28-year-old Mauricio Palma were severely injured and died as a result. Today Police explained what investigators have gathered so far.

DCP Chester Williams: Upon arrival they saw a dump truck type vehicle parked on the road side and they also saw two separate motorcycles and two individuals: one of the individuals appeared to be motionless, they were both taken to the Southern Regional Hospital where on arrival both were pronounced to be dead. From investigation we have learnt that the truck may have experienced some mechanical problem and a tire issue causing the driver of the vehicle to have left the vehicle on the side of the highway parked without leaving any indication to indicate to motorist that the vehicle was there and the two cyclist was riding their motorcycle when they run up into the rear of the said vehicle resulting in their injury and subsequent death. The police are currently preparing charges for the driver of that vehicle and he has been charged for causing death by careless conduct.
