Two men die in separate Road Traffic Accidents

Two men died over the weekend, not as a result of gun play or foul play, but from accidents. The police say that Cassian Mendoza died on Friday in Orange Walk when he crashed and in Corozal, Yancy Eck was killed after he was knocked off his bicycle by a Ford Escape driven by Jorge Cawich.

Sr. Superintendent Hilberto Romero (Acting) Head NCIB: “That report of two fatal road traffic accidents, on Friday around 9 pm Catsiallano Mendoza was driving a vehicle between Trinidad and August Pine Ridge when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the culvert. As a result, he received several head and body injuries. He was taken to the KHMH where he died on Sunday morning. The other fatal RTA; police responded to an RTA at around 8:30 PM in San Narciso Village where a report was received that Yanci Eck was riding a bicycle when he was hit by a Ford Escape being driven at the time by George Cawich. He was taken to the hospital and thereafter pronounced dead on arrival. George Cawich has since been detained, he is detained at this time pending the investigation of this fatal RTA.”

The police say Cawich is still in custody and will be charged for Eck’s death.
