Two Men in Comas After Drunken Motorcycle Crash in Orange Walk

Two men involved in a motorcycle incident over the weekend are hospitalized in a comatose state.  On Saturday afternoon just after three o’clock, 20-year-old Marlon Canto and 23-year-old Ian Reyes were travelling on a motorcycle in San Antonio Village, Orange Walk when Canto lost control of the motorbike. The pair swerved off the road and crashed into a tree, sustaining severe injuries to both the head and body. They were initially transported to the Northern Regional Hospital, but later transferred to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where they remain in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Since Saturday, the men have been in a comatose state.  Earlier today, Love News spoke to Canto’s father, Inocencio, who conceded that both men were under the influence of alcohol when the incident occurred.

George Reyes, Father of Ian Reyes: “When I reached there he was on the ground. I hear the men they were coming fast on the cycle both of them. So they crashed into a tree. They’re knocked out at the moment in the spot that they stayed and we rushed them to the hospital and they brought them to Karl Huesner. They’re in very critical condition right now.”

Reporter: There are reports that they were drinking when they were on the cycle or anything like that ?
George Reyes, Father of Ian Reyes:“Honestly I do think they were drinking yes. I know they were drinking but I think he was not so drunk because he was bathing at the river and running some jokes, the other one was more and he just picked him up at the moment because it’s the other’s cycle it’s not my son’s cycle it’s the other guy but nobody has the fault there it’s just an accident. We can’t blame anymore you know ? Nobody wants to get hurt, nobody wants to crash into anyone it’s just something that happened there. It happens. I just hope God, God will help us. Faith. He takes his little beer, he drinks beer you know like young guys do and yeah sometimes you know when he’s drunk you will tell him and he will not pay any mind to his parents but every young boy does that so I think it’s like any other young guy you know living life but rough one right now. He took the wrong direction.”

Our newsroom understands that while Canto was wearing a helmet when the incident occurred, Reyes was not wearing one. His father, George, says he received severe head injuries and is currently suffering from internal bleeding and swelling on his brain.

Inocencio Canto, Father of Marlon Canto: “My daughter she called my wife and she told my wife that my son had an accident. So we caught the bus to come straight to the hospital. When I came here I met my daughter and she told me that my son he got an accident on his head. So I went to the emergency. When I went to the emergency I met my son in the emergency, he looked dead. I tried to call his name and nothing. So up to now he is still on the same way. He just came to visit his sister maybe like eight days when this happened to him. It’s very sad for us. Right now my family is very sad. We just want to see him wake up and nothing up to now. This morning the doctor told me that Marlon is in a very serious condition right now so we’re asking the people to please help us with a prayer to see what God could do with him. But my family is very very sad with what is happening right now.”

Reporter: Does he know who to drive the motorcycle?

Inocencio Canto, Father of Marlon Canto: “He knows I have one home, he usually uses the motorcycle he knows but that day I don’t know what happened to him because I was not at the place when it happened.”

Canto’s family is seeking blood donors with O positive blood and can be reached at 660-9067. Meanwhile, Reyes’ family is seeking assistance with medical expenses and can be reached at 639-6227.
