Two Men Remanded for Alleged Rape of 15-Year-Old Girl

Two men accused of raping a fifteen-year-old girl have been remanded to the Belize Central Prison. Forty-two-year-old, Devaney Rudolph Flowers, and 43-year-old, Kareem Rashon Bennett, appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today on a single charge of rape, but could not enter a plea due to the nature of the offense. Attorney for Bennett, Ian Gray, asked the court to grant his client bail as the offense does not warrant mandatory remand, in the first instance.  The prosecution, however, objected to bail. The magistrate, after listening to both sides, decided to remand both men until November 17. The rape incident allegedly occurred on Monday, September 11. Allegations are that the minor was in Belize City buying at a shop and asked one of the accused to use the restroom. The minor reportedly went with one of the accused and was reportedly given something to drink. She told police that she blacked out and was awoken later by police officers.
