A woman was killed last night in Camalote Village in the Cayo District after the vehicle she was travelling in crashed into a horse that was on the road. Correspondent Fem Cruz has the story.
An unfortunate accident sometime around 7:10 last night in the village of Camalote involving a horse and and SUV claimed the life of 65-year-old Sarah Wolf of Spanishlookout Cayo district. According to the driver of the SUV 45-year-old Philip Wolf the son of the deceased they were on their way home to Spanish Lookout from Dangriga Town and upon reaching in front of the Matute residence in the village that is when the unfortunate happened. Love News spoke to two eyewitnesses that arrived on the scene minutes after.
Eye witness: “When I arrived I saw a lady in the vehicle, she was not breathing too well and the neighbor came out and helped assist and when they came out the lady was already dead and the impact sounded like it happened from a far distance. The horse came running and it ran in the middle of the road and the car hit the horse. I think she is from Spanish Lookout I’m not really sure.”
Eye witness: “When I arrived she was still in the seat and she was not responding or anything and then they covered her so I know she was dead already. According to some eyewitnesses they were giving the horses water and the horse must have gotten shocked and ran into the road and popped the rope and that is what caused the accident because it was just like one suden thing because nobody expected and it was already dark already.”
Another man lost his life while he was riding his bicycle on the Hummingbird Highway in Pomona Village, Stann Creek District. 49-year-old Stephen Williams told police that he was driving his delivery truck and attempted to avoid the victim, 69-year-old Leopoldo Hopon. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Joseph Myvett, gave more details.
ACP Joseph Myvette, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch: “Williams reported to police that whilst he was travelling within Pomona Village he saw a male person on a bicycle travelling in the same direction and upon him approaching near the person that person then rode across the highway and in an effort to avoid hitting the person he applied breaks and swerved towards his left however the person was still hit by the vehicle. This person’s name was learned to be one Leopold Hoppon, 69 years of Pomona Village who was transported to the Southern Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.”
