Two Women Hospitalized in Belize City Bar Shooting

In that very shooting incident at Da Buzz Restaurant and Bar in Belize city, two employees were also injured.  The two women remain hospitalized and have been identified as twenty-six-year-old Shayanta Williams, a waitress of Ladyville, and thirty-two-year-old Cardova Neal, a bartender of Frederick Street in Belize City.  Both women sustained gunshot injuries when the lone gunman opened fire inside the establishment shortly after six-thirty in the evening. The attacker reportedly fired multiple rounds at persons inside the bar before fleeing the scene.

Police spokesperson ASP Stacy Smith provided an update on their condition.

ASP Stacy Smith, Belize Police Department: “When police were alerted to a shooting incident at a business establishment located at mile 1.5 on the Philip Goldson Highway. What the investigation has so far revealed is that these three females were inside that establishment when a male person entered and began a conversation with Ms. Funez during which time he asked that she handed over a phone that was in her possession. After she did this, the male person produced a firearm and fired several shots which resulted in the fatal wounding of Ms. Funez and the injury of two others.”

Williams and Neal were transported for medical treatment shortly after the incident and remain under observation.  Police say they will be better equipped with more information in Monday’s press brief
