A little over a year ago on Sunday March 11, 2018 Tyrique Francis was walking on Jones Street, heading home when a man on a bicycle fired several shots at him. The forensic team recovered six expended shells at the scene and Francis was lucky to walk away with only a gunshot injury to his right wrist. But this past weekend, Francis was not able to escape injury. The police say he was killed on Fabers Road extension. We spoke to the police and Francis’ grieving mother late this evening about his passing.
ASP Alejandro Cowo- Head CIB Belize City: “Police visited the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where they observed Tyrique Francis a twenty-year-old Belizean of a Holy Emmanuel Street with apparent gunshot wounds to his body. He was also pronounced dead on arrival at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. What police gathered so far is that Mr. Tyrique Francis was walking on Faber’s Road extension but upon reaching the junction of Coleman Rd. by Fabers’ Road Extension a male person came out from the bushes and fired several shots at his direction causing the above mentioned injuries. He is well known to police, we suspect that it is because of that same rivalry that is behind in the Martin’s area. At this moment no one has been detained.”
Stefanie Francis – Mother of the deceased: “Tyrique was a very nice child, he has his little ways, he is ignorant and thing but he doesn’t like me to get mad but my two sons helped me. It is so hard because when they killed my son no one slept, every minute my kids cried. I try hard to be strong and I want to say something because just this evening my friends told me how the police tried to save my son. I am very thankful to that police where they were trying to pump my son. The lady said that the police mentioned that they knew the little boy and that this is a nice boy, they tried but God have a reason for everything. My son is resting now and all I can do is bury him and try to take care of the rest of them. At the end of the day vengeance is for God and if the police don’t get to do their job witching they can’t do anything if no one wants to talk but at the end of the day vengeance is for God and my God will do whatever he has to do for me.”
Tyrick was the second of Tefanie Francis sons to be killed by gun violence. In July 2018, her firstborn Dale Nembard was shot and killed on Berry Street in Belize City.
