The University of Belize has been awarded a new grant for 248,800 Euros which is equivalent to $560,435.93 Belize dollars from the Technical Cooperation Program. In December 2015, Mr. Dazhu Yang, Deputy Director General, Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation of the International Atomic Energy Agency, wrote Wilfred Elrington informing him that the proposal that UB’s Assistant Professor Dr.Abel Carrias of the Faculty of Science and Technology had submitted, to the Technical Cooperation Program for the 2016-2017 cycle, was approved by the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency. Funds from the project will be used for Strengthening National Capacity for Measuring and Monitoring Marine Pollution and Studying the Effects of Ocean Acidification on Marine Ecosystems. More specifically, funds will support capacity building in the form of laboratory instrumentation acquisition and training. UB’s goal is to work alongside the Technical Cooperation Program to establish a long and fruitful relationship for building capacity at UB and of its stakeholders that will lead to meaningful contributions towards the development of Belize.
