The University of Belize Faculty and Staff Union (UBFSU) continues to hold the public’s attention as expected developments remain pending. A scheduled meeting with the government, which was anticipated to address the concerns of the union, has yet to take place. Julianne Pasos, President of the UBFSU, revealed that Cabinet is expected to table the subventions this week. These funds are crucial for addressing the union’s demands and ensuring the smooth operation of the university. Pasos further warned that if the government fails to meet their needs, the union is prepared to take additional measures.

Julianne Pasos, President, UBFSU: “The meeting has not taken place with the ministers , they actually responded to a request and the meeting will be scheduled after the cabinet meeting on Tuesday. I have to say that unfortunately because it is July , it is summer and you have family commitments and so ofrht a lot off ur members are not able to be here today but they have extended their support to us and hopefully once we get back on track we will have the numbers to show that we do have that support because we do have the support of our faculty and staff. This is only a small representation of the support we have. The 9%…..only got 5 and we did not get the additional 9% so this is long in the making. So our faculty and staff are really going to do whatever it takes to get it and so I just have say be prepared for whatever.”
Reporter: Even if that means pushing school back too ?
Julianne Pasos, President, UBFSU: “I don’t know. I can’t say you know ? And honestly at the Cabinet meeting we are going to or we plan to be out there for that meeting on Tuesday and I’m going to invite the students to come and join us because the subvention doesn’t only impact faculty and staff but it also impacts the students so I invite the students to come and join us and the public come on it affects all of us. What affects our national university affects the entire country of Belize.”
With the new academic year at the University of Belize set to begin in August, unresolved issues could potentially delay the start of classes
