UDP Chairman sticking by party leader
Friday’s House Meeting has sparked opinions, commentaries and debates over the behaviour of the Leader of the Opposition towards the Speaker of the House, Valerie Woods. Standing behind the opposition leader’s actions is the UDP Chairman, Michael Peyrefitte. According to him there is a clear double standard at play.
Michael Peyrefitte, UDP Lead Senator: “We have Abelardo Mai telling the member from Albert to sit on a bag of carrots. Where was your outrage then ? Where was the outrage of everybody who made those – we have the Prime Minister essentially calling a Senator stupid. I mean where is the outrage for that ? I’m not hearing – you should have asked Senator Courtenay if he’s a band of those PUP parliamentarians who defend that kind of behavior. I mean he wrote a letter, there is to be a response let’s just see but the UDP we support our party leader. When you table a motion and you can’t even get your motion heard and the people want to hear that motion and hear a debate on that sometimes we get frustrated and you fire off what you need to fire off. I mean that’s just – I mean we’ve had members of the House punch that wall over there you of frustration then turn around and blame the police until they get caught and had to admit. So I mean I think it’s much ado about nothing and a lot of things happen in this country and of course [inaudible] make it such of a woman issue or whatever a lot of things are done and said by PUP against women and nothing comes of ut. Now all of a sudden- like I said this is the most sensitive and thin skinned and insecure government I’ve ever seen in my life.”
