UDP Concludes Nomination Process for Municipal Elections

Wrapping up the nomination process was the United Democratic Party (UDP) which had their turn in the afternoon.  We rejoin Renee Trujillo for that summary.

Renee Trujillo, News Director, Love News: Nine full slates were duly nominated this afternoon for the United Democratic Party, UDP. Flocked by supporters in their red and white colors the candidates in all cities and towns had the support of standard bearers and area representatives. In Belize City the Leader of the Opposition, Moses Shyne Barrow, along with Patrick Faber and Tracy Panton walked into the ITVET compound supporting Dr.Nelma Mortis and her slate of ten councilor candidates. Additionally in the north both Elodio Aragon and Hugo Patt were out in full support.

Hugo Patt: “Actually part of our town includes the area 41 which is my constituency and so we have been doing work in the area and from that end I can tell you that the response has been very good. Corozal Bay all of the constituencies is included in town and so we have Mr.Puerto who is the standard bearer for us working along with the team to make sure that we do what we need to do in order for us to be able to be victorious come March 6.”

Moses “Shyne” Barrow, Leader of the Opposition: “This is indicative of what will happen on election day. It is crystal clear all throughout the length and breadth of this country that Belizean people in each municipality are completely exhausted and tired of the suffering and punishment that has been afflicted and inflicted by the People’s United Party.”

Elodio Aragon: “Our Orangewalkenos who are upset and frustrated with the PUP. This morning I think you saw the PUP it’s all town board workers that were out there, it is all people that they were bussed in by the villages, very very few people from the town. That speaks a lot.”

Renee Trujillo, News Director, Love News:  As for the Mayoral candidates and councilors across the nine municipalities all expressed excitement and predicted victory at the polls come Wednesday March 6.

Candidate: “I come from a humble family and I know what is the needs of the people that they’re not getting here and those are the things that Ricardo brings along with him, with the people of Corozal.”

Dr. Nemla Mortis, UDP Mayoral Candidate

Dr. Nemla Mortis, UDP Mayoral Candidate: “My leadership to serve the people of Belize and not to serve a UDP or a PUP person but the people of Belize.”

Candidate: “Excitement. Absolutely mindblowing. I think you can see it these people are here because they believe in the party, they believe in us. None of these people are afraid to lose their job. They are here because they believe in us, because they believe in themselves and they know they will do the right choice. UDP 7 come March 6.”
Renee Trujillo, News Director, Love News: The day went without a hitch except for one confrontation with the police out west with a UDP executive member. We will be following up on that story in subsequent news reports.

Tomorrow morning, an in-depth assessment will be aired on today’s showing of each political party.  Guest panelists will be Ann Marie Williams and Dr Harold Young at seven o’clock tomorrow on Love FM and Love Television.
