UDP Expresses Confidence in Municipal Election Victory

The United Democratic Party says it is confident of winning all seats in the upcoming municipal elections, after suffering a humiliation at the polls in municipal 2021. The party was blown out at the polls in the 2020 general elections, and again in 2021 for the municipals.  The defeat resulted in the UDP winning only two of the sixty-seven municipal seats. With the municipal election coming up in a few weeks, the party hopes to gain the support of the electorate and regain a solid political footing. UDP Chairman Michael Peyrefitte spoke on the party’s confidence and why he feels the tides are turning.

Michael Peyrefitte, UDP Chairman: “The UDP will be successful on March 6. We believe that the people out here are angry. We believe that the people out here are seeing clearly that the PUP has been just an abject failure. And so with the cost of living, the high cost of living, with the visible corruption, with them not doing one single thing since they came to government in 2020. Only UDP projects they can complete like Haulover Bridge and the like. Even the media was asking the mayor the other night breds where all this action come from, where all this thing come from. They have nothing but di claim that some how this has become a smart city simply because you have to pay now. It’s absolute foolishness. I don’t know who’s talking to them but the people are telling us that they’re fed up with this government and the PUP must go. So that’s our thinking. That’s our thinking and you know that’s the only thing that we feel at this point. We’re pulling it total, anything less than all will be a failure for us. We expect to sweep the board. That’s our mentality going in. Listen to me, we’re going in.”

Reporter: The UDP will never win Orange Walk.

Michael Peyrefitte, UDP Chairman: “We are going into the March 6 election not saying oh we plan to win this one and we plan to lose that, we plan to win all. There’s not a single candidate that we don’t expect to get elected on March 6. That’s how I feel.”

Peyrefitte added that while they are hoping for the best, ultimately the voters will decide.
