Attorney Dr. Christopher Malcolm, on behalf of the UDP Party Leader, Moses Shyne Barrow, is calling on the Elections and Boundaries Commission to address several concerning issues as the general elections loom. In a 3-page letter sent to the commission, the attorney is asking that clarification be made on a publication issued by Hot Off the Press indicating that both the Barrow and the Tracy factions would be allowed to use red on the election ballot. The blog reported that the differentiation would be via the use of symbols. Love News did investigate the matter and confirmed by an official from the Elections and Boundaries Commission that no such decision was made, and that the report was erroneous at best. A public clarification, however, was not made by the commission, resulting in Dr. Malcolm requesting an official response from the commission. The commission is chaired by Attorney Oscar Sabido, but is a body that has rarely ever engaged with the media. In the letter dated yesterday, it goes on to indicate that, quote, “I would be very surprised to discover that the Commission decided as reported in Hot Off the Press, especially since it is public knowledge, well known to at least two (2) members of the Commission, who are parties to relevant action in the High Court, that whether Ms. Taegar-Panton is even a member of the UDP at this time is a matter to be determined by the High Court no sooner than 31 March 2025.” End of quote. This is the second letter sent to the Elections and Boundaries Commission, and according to Dr. Malcolm, the commission is yet to respond.
