Meanwhile, UDP Loyalist, Allan Kelly, has been charged with aggravated assault and one count of discharging a firearm in public after opening fire near his ex-girlfriend’s partner. On Sunday, the 39-year-old allegedly fired three gunshots above the head of 23-year-old Samuel Lawson. According to police, just after 5 o’clock Kelly visited the residence of his ex-girlfriend on Police Street in Belize City. An argument then ensued between him and the woman. Lawson noticed the commotion and walked out of the yard. He was followed by his girlfriend, her son, and an enraged Kelly. Kelly then confronted Lawson, pointing his licensed .9mm pistol above Lawson’s head and firing three shots. According to Police Press Officer, ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Kelly then fled the scene and was later apprehended by police.
ASP. Fitzroy Yearwood, Public Relations, Belize Police Department: “Investigators did find a licensed 9mm belonging to Mr.Kelly that of course was taken away and is now an exhibit and this morning Allan Kelly was formally arrested and charged with the two counts that I mentioned. That I will not answer because the Commissioner of Police has the only power in this country to grant a license so that would be a question for the Commissioner of Police. I will only report when you commit yourself using that firearm. I’m certain he wasn’t granted a license to go and commit himself, that’s his responsibility.”
