The United Democratic Party today announced that it is postponing all political gatherings including the Belmopan convention, which was slated for August fifteen. In a release issued today, the Opposition said it will comply with the Ministry of Health and Wellness’s request and is postponing, quote, “all major political events such as large meetings, rallies, conventions and other face-to-face gatherings in numbers greater than the mandated fifty persons including the…convention in Belmopan.” End of quote. The party, in its statement today, also encouraged Belizeans to get vaccinated and to adhere to all safety protocols by the Government of Belize. It adds that it has also advised the Government of its decision and that the UDP stands ready to assist in the fight against the pandemic whenever it is called upon to do so. The release ends by saying that the party will resume its events as soon as the Government advises it is safe to do so.
