While Faber believes he’s been able to do a good job in Collett, he says the government has failed to improve the healthcare sector and alleges corruption within the National Health Insurance (NHI) scheme. The former government minister criticized the People’s United Party administration for what he says is a lack of transparency and accused the government of facilitating wrongdoings. Faber stated that while the concept of the NHI program is good, he believes that the government has turned it into a political scheme for self-enrichment.

Patrick Faber, (Panton UDP) Standard Bearer, Collet: “Our party has never had a problem with NHI in concept. The problem we have is because the People’s United Party in the past, and I suspect right now, it’s just a matter of matters coming to light, use these schemes to profit. That’s what happened with the initial rollout of NHI. They fattened themselves. They gave contracts to their friends and cronies, their own doctor friends. We could get into the details if we had more time but that’s what they did. You know, much of the time it’s not the concept itself of what they’re trying to do it’s how they go about doing it and the corruption that’s involved. We often say the devil is in the details and that is the case. And so when you ask me if on the surface if these programs will be continued, absolutely….minus the corruption.”
Faber also raised concerns over the management of government-owned boledo and lotteries, which fund the National Health Insurance (NHI) program. He alleged that the management of these funds is not as effective as the government claims and compared the figures that were being collected under the Barrow administration.
