Leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP), Moses Shyne Barrow, is scheduled to introduce his 31 standard bearers tomorrow during a special event at the party’s headquarters. While Barrow and the UDP Executive prepare for Monday’s Nomination Day, the group appears resolute in its stance on how matters are being played out in the public sphere. As such, an appeal has been filed in the Belize High Court because the, ‘learned judge failed to consider or invite submissions from the parties on the applicable test for contempt of court, which was never examined before the Honourable Court.’ This is only one aspect of the appeal, but essentially, the application is for an urgent hearing to appeal three rulings, namely, the dismissal of contempt charges against Tracy Panton; the dismissal of the January 16 application for several court orders, and the bearer of costs for the application. According to the appeal, the judge did not truly consider the scope of contempt carried out by Panton, nor did he consider or adequately apply the meaning of November’s ruling where the, “status quo ante is restored”. The appeal was filed today and in summary, is asking for, the February 14 order by Justice Tawanda Hondora to be set aside; an order granting the Appellants’ Application for an Interim Non-Disclosure Order on the terms prayed in their application filed on 16 January 2025 or on such other terms as deemed just and convenient, and that the legal costs be cost to the Appellants./////
