Unemployed Man Fined for Assaulting Family Members in Drunken Altercation

An unemployed man was fined two hundred dollars today after choking his mother and threatening to kill her and his common-law-wife.  25-year-old, Jose Neri Mayorga Fuentes, told the Chief Magistrate that he was drunk and that he did not mean to harm or threaten the two women.  In addition to the slap on the wrist for common assault, Fuentes was bound over to keep the peace for one year with the women, meaning that there should not be a repeat of such behavior towards them.  The incident reportedly happened at their home at mile twenty on the George Price Highway at around one o’clock in the morning.  The incident occurred on Saturday, April 6 when Fuentes arrived home drunk and began fighting with the women.  He reportedly took a machete and had the women running from him.  Fuentes resides in the same yard as his mother, but has since relocated to avoid any reoccurrence of hostilities.  In deliberations, Fuentes pleaded for mercy, and was granted such on the grounds that he had no other matters before the court.
