In celebrating its 75th anniversary, UNICEF hosted a special gala on Saturday night in Belize City. The event was held under the theme “Enduring Legacy, Promising Future”, a theme that Allison Parker, UNICEF’s representative in Belize, says speaks to the organization’s mandate in championing the rights of children.
In attendance at the gala was Minister of Education, Francis Fonseca who spoke on the immeasurable work that UNICEF has done in promoting education, health, and the rights of children in over one hundred and ninety-two countries and territories.
UNICEF was created on December 11, 1946, in New York, by the U.N. Relief Rehabilitation Administration to provide immediate relief to children and mothers affected by World War Two and is the successor of the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund.
