Unions Hold Funeral for Corruption

Multiple funerals were held today across the country – not because someone died, but because the unions say that corruption killed democracy. Union members dressed in full black, marched on the streets following a casket, mimicking an actual funeral. In Belize City, Branch President, *Tanya Flowers-Gillett spoke of the significance. *

Tanya Flowers – Gillett, BNTU President, Belize District Branch

Tanya Flowers – Gillett, BNTU President, Belize District Branch: “You noticed how these politicians or these governments were formed, based on unionism right ? So we’re sending out that message. We got to stand strong so that those people who are in government could hear us, hear what we’re standing for. We know the 10% is out there and it’s going to affect a whole lot of – in fact almost all Belizeans especially the poorer class of society so we’re sending that message; good governance we do not want to come back here another five yen years down the road. We’re talking about all those individuals that have a hand in the corruption of this nation so which ever political party whoever you are and you have a hand taking what is not yours that’s it right there.”
