The government has contracted the University of Belize to develop a comprehensive public financial management (PFM) training program for public officers. The Ministry of Economic Development and UB signed the contract on Monday as part of ongoing fiscal reforms under the Strengthening Public Expenditure Management (SPEM) in Belize Project. The project, valued at over two point three million Belize dollars, is being executed in collaboration with the Training and Development Unit of the Ministry of Public Service, with funding from the Inter-American Development Bank. Freida Palma, Director for Open and Distance Learning at UB, says that several considerations need to be made when developing the program, including the delivery method for the material and the intended audience. Palma says that UB will be conducting evaluations to determine the needs of the intended participants.
Palma said that a program of this caliber can take up to nine months to develop. UB will also be conducting evaluations to determine the program’s effectiveness.
