Tonight, there are unresolved issues within the Punta Gorda Town Council. Another meeting was called this morning at the town hall after the five councilors were dissatisfied with responses given to them surrounding mismanagement at the council. On Monday, we told you of a letter by five town councilors, sent to Mayor Charles Selgado, querying certain transactions that did not undergo proper procurement processes nor did they get the approval of the council. Love News understands that after that first letter was sent, the Minister of Local Government, Oscar Requena, did meet with them and the Mayor was given a deadline to produce receipts and documentation surrounding specific transactions. That apparently, did not happen, and so the five councilors wrote again to Mayor Selgado on July 4, 2023. A meeting was called for today, but we were told that neither the Mayor nor the Deputy Mayor showed up. Correspondent Paul Mahung spoke with Councilor Virez on the current situation, but he would not go into details until they have met with the Mayor on the pending issues.
One councilor had reached out to told Love News saying that their concerns also surround the purchasing of heavy machinery for which there are no receipts or documentation, as well as a contract issued to one town councilor for the Valuation Roll exercise, amounting to just over one hundred thousand dollars.
