We also asked the Police Commissioner about John Saldivar and the investigation that was launched against the Belmopan politician. In November 2022, the US Department of State designated Saldivar as “significantly corrupt”, an allegation that Saldivar continues to deny. Saldivar has challenged the US government to provide evidence, saying that it’s all a witch hunt to deter him from continuing life in the political arena. When the designation was made three months ago, Police Commissioner Chester Williams told Love News that another investigation would be launched. We asked him for an update…
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “That investigation is very tedious. As you would know that whatever may have occurred did not happen within the Belize jurisdiction but perhaps within the US jurisdiction and so whatever evidence we may need to further any investigation will have to come from the US. We have requested certain things and we’re still waiting to see if or when we’re going to get them and then based on that we’ll be able to determine how we go from there.”
