Progress is reportedly being made as it pertains to the Occupation Safety and Health Bill. Recently the BCCI-NTUCB’s Labour Committee met to discuss the way forward with the joint review of the OSH bill provided by the OSH Technical Working Committee. President of the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Marcello Blake, told Love News that the next step is to make a presentation to the relevant ministry. Blake says during the presentation suggestions to amend certain sections will be made.
Marcello Blake, BCCI President: “The OSH bill has been there for some time however the unions and Chamber have actually been working at this for some time. We’ve actually done several public appearances discussing this matter on our Business Perspective Show and so we are now at that point where we are going to be submitting a joint presentation to the ministry on our review of that OSH bill because what we’ve been doing in our working sessions is going through the bill line by line and making suggested changes, improvements to the bill, and so that is now completed we are now both parties in agreement so that document is going to be forwarded to the ministry shortly under a joint cover letter from both entities.”
