Adrienne Barillas, the daughter of Michael Barillas and Emogene Lopez, was enlisted in the US Army as a water treatment specialist. Two weeks ago we reported of her unfortunate passing whilst stationed in South Korea. The body of the young woman was escorted home and handed over to her family earlier today.
Jose Sanchez: “Twenty-two year old Adrian Barillas, a US Army Second Infantry Division Soldier, was found dead at Camp Humphreys in South Korea. The twenty- two year old from Woodlands Texas was found unresponsive on the 23rd of September on the sprawling base south of Seoul and later pronounced dead by emergency personnel. The cause has not been released – the deceased is also a Belizean national. Barillas arrived in South Korea about six months after joining the military as a water treatment specialist. While in the army Barillas had earned the Army Achievement medal ‘the National Defense Service Medal’ and the Army Service Ribbon. On October first more than one hundred soldiers turned out to remember and honor Adrian Barillas during a service at Camp Humphreys’ Warrior Chapel. Barillas body arrived via an American Airlines flight today. The family was escorted to the apron at 11:05 this morning to greet the coffin draped in the American flag. The coffin was removed from the airport by airport personnel from the plane then six soldiers took it to a nearby hearse. The Soldiers gave their final salutes before the grieving family. Finally the journey home from Korea is complete and now on Belizean soil Barillas’ body was taken by hearst to prepare for a funeral on Tuesday.”
Family members are preparing to have the young woman laid to rest on Tuesday, October 9.
