The Sitting of the Senate took place today in Belmopan with a focus on the Validation Bill 2020. The Bill went through its three readings at Thursday’s House Meeting and was brought about to get approval from the House for six contracts that were not presented within the 30-day period required. Senator for the unions, Elena Smith, referred to the non-presentation as an omission and not a mistake. She rose to give her views on the Bill but was quickly interrupted by UDP Senator and Attorney General Michael Peyrefitte.
The Bill was opposed by the Senators for the private sector, the opposition, the NGOs and the unions. It was favored by the UDP Senators and the Senator for the Churches, Ashley Rocke.
