Several members of the Verdes Football Club flew out to Miami on Monday to take part in the draft for the Champion’s League Tournament. The Verdes team was chosen as the representative team for Belize after winning the 2015 Premier League of Belize Tournament. Today the team returned and we caught up with Marvin Ottley, Technical Director for the Verdes FC, who gave a rundown of the team’s position.
“We were draw in Group C and we draw on top of the board, so that is a possibility that we might play at home first and we are grouped with Queretaro FC from Mexico and San Francisco FC from Panama. On Sunday I had a chance to look at Queretaro FC in the finals against Santos, a game which they won but Santos had won the first game by a bigger goal score. We have to gather as much to make ourselves better prepared and we believe we have a chance to advance out of this first round so that will be the big job for us.”
Playing in the big league calls for much more preparation which is scheduled to start as soon as possible according to Ottley.
“It’s all preparation from a management position and from a technical position so we get to work as early as tomorrow in regards to continue communicating with CONCACAF in ensuring that we have everything in line to meet the dates that they have required in regards to all the paper work and those kinds of stuff and in preparation between our holiday because we had three weeks but now its cut into two so we have to get working right away. The biggest thing for is that our tournament is off, so the biggest thing is for us to get quality matches from within the region so the level of preparation could be as close as possible to what we are going to face out there.”
The team is expected to play in two matches in Guatemala next week as part of their preparations.
