Video contradicting allegation of the rape of a Canadian woman surfaces

One man has been charged with rape. A thirty year old Canadian woman told police that she and her husband were socializing with some friends on the night of April 5 and sometime after she fell asleep. She added that she later woke up to find a man raping her. The accused, forty-six year old Derrick Gabb, (VO STARTS) has been charged with rape and appeared today before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford. Today Inspector of Police Wilfred Ferrufino of the Crimes Investigation Branch told the media that Gabb handed himself in to police, but would not comment any further when asked whether Gabb had presented evidence that contradict the complainant’s version of events.

While in court today, no plea was taken because the offence is indictable. The prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds that Gabb might prejudice the investigation if granted bail; that the prosecution has a strong case; that because of the strength of the case, Gabb might not appear in court if granted bail; and that he might interfere with the complainant. But Gabb’s attorney, Herbert Panton submitted that statements have already been taken so there is no way Gabb can tamper with the investigation and that it was a drunken brawl that lasted for 12 hours and the prosecution has nothing close to a strong case. He also submitted that there is video footage of the entire event. Senior Magistrate Ford offered Gabb bail in the sum of $6,000 with one surety or two sureties of three thousand dollars each. The bail was granted on the condition that Gabb does not contact the virtual complainant in any way; that he reports to Raccoon Street Police Station every Friday; and that he does not go within 100 yards of the complainant.
