In response to the alarming increase in road traffic accidents (RTAs) across Belize, a visionary has stepped forward with an innovative solution by way of drivers’ manual for Belize. The proposed manual focuses on standardizing road safety education, promoting responsible driving habits, and ultimately reducing the number of accidents on the roads and highways. The author of the manual, Ishmael Kevin Contreras, told Love News that the plan is to collaborate with the government to adapt the manual as the national textbook for students nationwide. According to Contreras, the introduction of road safety education should be done at a young age.
The proposed manual covers a wide range of topics, including traffic laws, defensive driving techniques, vehicle maintenance, and the dangers of distracted or impaired driving. It would also incorporate local driving conditions, such as navigating rural roads, dealing with inclement weather, and sharing the road with pedestrians and cyclists.
