Wanted: Joseph Budna Faces Cyberbullying Charges Against Orange Walk North Representative

Joseph Budna is a well-known character who has had his share of problems with law-enforcement both in Belize and Guatemala.  For many years he has presented himself as a news reporter, but has found himself in compromising situations that has marred his reputation.  The most recent scandal was when a minor was killed inside his apartment in the Cayo District last year.  After this incident, Budna relocated to Orange Walk, again acting as a news reporter.  Tonight, he is in trouble with the law, and according to the Commissioner of Police, he is wanted for cyberbullying against the Orange Walk North Area Representative Ramon Cervantes.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “The cybercrime unit in Belmopan has been extremely busy. People are becoming more and more familiar with the law and are making these reports as they occur. And the unit is tasked with making sure that they do follow up on these incidents and so yes I’m aware that Minister Cervantes had filed a report against Joseph Budna in respect to cyberbullying and the police again is looking for Budna to follow through with that report to see if there is anything there that he can be charged for.”

In August last year, Commissioner Williams told the media that Budna is a, ‘known sexual predator who preys on young men.  Our archives show that in 2019, Budna escaped from Guatemala where he was serving a twenty-five-year sentence for kidnapping and extortion, and made his way to Belize. In 2021, he was charged in Belize with two counts of sexual assault on a male minor and sent to prison, and served time. Also in 2021, Crime Stoppers International reported that Budna was wanted in the United States on charges of hostage taking, conspiracy to commit hostage taking, using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.
