Water Issues on La Isla Carinosa

Water Issues on La Isla Carinosa

Residents, tourists, and business owners have been complaining that they are experiencing water issues in Caye Caulker Village during one of the busiest times of the year. One resident told Love News, (quote) “It’s Easter in Caye Caulker and no water or it’s super salty.” (end of quote) A release from Belize Water Services (BWS) says that there is a mechanical at its water treatment plant which has caused the salinity level in the water to exceed the normal threshold. BWS has advised its customers in Caye Caulker to avoid using the water for drinking or cooking purposes until further notice. BWS says that customers will experience low water pressure until midnight tonight which will be followed by a full interruption of water services to the entire Caye Caulker Distribution System. BWS says that this interruption is necessary to restore the water supply to all residents of Caye Caulker in preparation for the Easter weekend. The water contamination issue and subsequent water service interruption in Caye Caulker, as announced by BWS, could have significant implications for tourists and businesses on the island during the long Easter break.
