Twenty-six-year-old Darnell Talbert was shot and killed just outside Scotland Halfmoon village in the Belize District over the weekend. Talbert was driving in a black Infinity SUV along with another man around 4:40 Saturday evening when they came under gunfire. Reports are that Talbert had just left a party and was headed home to change so he could go to the carnival in Belize City. He had just arrived at the Scotland Halfmoon junction when a gray Kia Soul overtook him and someone from inside the vehicle opened fire. The Kia then drove off in the direction of Bermudan Landing. Talbert was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) for treatment but was pronounced dead just after five o’clock. Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero says police believe the shooting is the result of an ongoing rivalry in the Belize River Valley area.
Talbert’s body now lies in the morgue at the KHMH, pending a post-mortem examination.
