Well-known footballer wanted for questioning in Galvez’s murder

Tonight, a popular football player is a person of interest in a murder investigation and is believed to be in hiding after his missing girlfriend turned up dead. Yesterday evening, 19-year-old, Imarie Galvez, the Belmopan teen who was reported missing, was discovered in an advanced state of decomposition off a feeder road near mile forty on the Hummingbird Highway. A motive behind Galvez’s gruesome murder is yet to be established, but Police believe that she may have been killed on Saturday night after visiting a nightclub in Belmopan. Late this evening, the Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, confirmed with Love News that one man has been detained and another well-known athlete is being sought for questioning.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “We are indeed looking for a popular football player. We have not been able to locate him despite checks made at a number of places where we believe he would normally be. So it is our belief that he is in hiding and we are hoping that pretty soon that we will be able to locate him as we believe he can shed some light on the investigation. Yes there are a number of rumors that are going around that he was in an abusive relationship with this particular individual. Wether or not that is true is still a matter to be confirmed. What we’re picking up is that Imari might have been at a popular night club in Belmopan Saturday night and the last time she was seen was sometime after midnight which would be early Sunday morning at a night club and from there she had left. So there are a number of things that we are doing including viewing video footage to see with who she was at the night club with and if in fact she left there with anybody. Police have so far detained for questioning one individual who we believe she was affiliated with and we’re also looking for another individual who we also believe she also had some affiliation. These individuals are male persons and we’re hoping that either of them will be able to shed some light on the investigation. We’re leaving no stones unturned.”

The ComPol also stated that Galvez’s body was found with injuries believed to be either a gunshot or a stab wound. He says that while he understands the family’s decision to report her missing days after she vanished, an earlier report would have greatly assisted investigators.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “May I state that the body was found in an advanced state of decomposition and it was taken to the medical school on Boom road where a post mortem examination is scheduled to be conducted. And the only disappointment in this whole matter is the fact that the young lady had gone missing from Saturday and the family did not report the matter until yesterday. So there was a whole three day period that could have been sued to look for her nad hopefully she would have been found much earlier. So we’re a bit disappointed in that but again I guess the family members know why they took so long to report the matter so we’re not going to crucify for them for that. If there is anyone out there who believes that they may have information pertinent to identifying who her killer is or killers are we ask that they kindly contact the police or they can call the 9-2-2 and provide the information there. It’s a horrible incident and I don’t think any woman, particularly young female, deserves to be killed in such a manner. We do observe what appeared to be an injury in the chest it could be either a stab wound or a gunshot wound, that will be confirmed by the post mortem. So again we appeal to the public who may have any information that they believe could help the police in solving this latest murder in the Belmopan area to please come forward and share the information with us so that we can give the family members some closure in respect to this matter.”
