The management of the Western Health Region has announced that additional measures are being taken at the major hospitals in the Cayo District in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. At the Western Regional Hospital and San Ignacio, Community Hospital patients are now being greeted by security who will direct them to different areas within the compound based on the purpose of their visit. If anyone is experiencing flu-like symptoms, they are asked to inform the security who will direct them to the respiratory/flu clinic. The Ministry of Health is asking that patients do not enter the hospital if they have flu-like symptoms. As it relates to visitation, the hours are now from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM and from 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM daily and will be strongly enforced.  Only one visitor will be allowed during visiting hours and no children under 16 years will be allowed to visit the wards. The management discourages children to visit the hospital unless consulting for a medical condition. Elective surgeries have been canceled until further notice. Emergency surgeries, deliveries, and emergency C-sections will continue as per normal.
