What’s going on with the road in Sandhill? Area Rep. Leal wants it done right

Residents in the village of Sandhill, one of the largest communities in Belize Rural North, have complained about road infrastructure and access to utilities. This week, Love News spoke to Area Representative, Marconi Leal, Sr. about this issue. He told us how soon he expects the important materials needed to get it started and whether this issue has partisan political undertones. Here’s what he told Giovanna Moguel.

Marconi Leal Sr. Area Representative, Belize Rural North: “I think I got two calls recently the last few days but I explained to them that the difficult we’re having right now is getting the materials from the query to Belize Rural North and I told them as soon as I get them, which will be I believe maybe another week or two before we get the materials the hardcore because we’re not just pushing a road and leaving people there to have that difficulty you know they have to take their vehicles out. If we are doing a road we want to do it good. So we’re getting in the hard core material to do roads but they just have to wait a little bit. Just because somebody put a house and blocked them from getting to their property because they were passing through private lot now they’re in a rush I can’t fix that immediately I just have to wait until I get materials and I already told them that but I know about the situation and I will be working on it.”

Reporter: They feel like it’s a political agenda that you don’t want to help them.

Marconi Leal Sr. Area Representative, Belize Rural North: “Well I explained to them, well I kinda said that in one sense but they misinterpreted what I said but honestly that project was not done under this PUP regime that was done under Edmond Castro and the UDPs. But I shouldn’t have that problem now you know ? If it was fixed from day one, if you’re gonna give out lots , you subdivide an area and you’re giving lots then put in the roads, at least put in the road so that the people will be able to get lights and water. If there is no road they will have a problem of getting light and water and they’ve had the problem. But it would have been so much easier for them and me because now they’re coming to me to fix that problem that should have been fixed a long time ago and I tried to explain that to them and now they’re trying to say that because PUP is in and they got in under the UDP now I don’t want to help them. It’s not that and I told them in another week, two weeks whenever we get material I’ll look at the map and see where we’ll put the road and we’ll put in a good road.”
