When it comes to the delegate list for Sunday’s convention, our newsroom has confirmed that John Saldivar has garnered the support of Dianne Finnegan, UDP’s Lake Independence Standard Bearer, Ashton McKenzie (Mayor of Punta Gorda) and Daniel Guerrero, Mayor of San Pedro Town. Today we spoke with UDP’s Area Representative for Belize Rural Central, Beverly Williams who spoke on where her support lies for Sunday.
Beverly Williams, Belize Rural Central: “John Birchman Saldivar. I think John is the man with the plan, John is the only person that has written the plan, John won already. We were waiting for a bombshell to come out of Washington there is no bombshell as far as I’m concerned in Washington the evidence said he was given campaign financing and there are lots of other people in this country who are politicians that have taken money from that same individual and so I don’t see how that could put John in a negative perception, in a negative position where they’re creating a perception that the Belizean people will not want John and so there’s this perception that he’s bad for Belize – I don’t buy that. John is the man who is prepared and if you know him personally he is the man to lead the party into the next election. 2020 November election will be led by John Saldivar.”
Also weighing in on their preference for UDP leader was the Area Representative for Orange Walk East, Elodio Aragon. According to Aragon his preference has not waivered nor shifted since the last convention.
Elodio Aragaon Jr., Orange Walk East: “Well I’m supporting Patrick Faber. I think he’s the right leader for the right time right now and I think that right now you know the party is looking for a fourth term and therefore I think we need a young dynamic leader to take the helm in the party and to lead us into victory. And I do think that Patrick Faber brings a lot of things to the party he’s young, he’s dynamic and he will bring about a new vision for this party in terms of moving the kind of things that have been the hallmark of this party and to bring about new ideas because at the end of the day we need new blood to bring about these ideas and definitely I’ve been supporting Patrick Faber from day one when he ran for the Deputy Prime Minister post and I’ve been with him steadfast and we will continue until we see victory this Sunday.”
UDP’s Standard Bearer for Toledo West, Simeon Coc also gave an interview on who he will be supporting come Sunday.
Dr.Simeon Coc, Toledo West: “I am definitely supporting Honorable Patrick Faber.”
Courtney Menzies, Love FM News: Can you tell us why you came to that position ?
Dr.Simeon Coc, Toledo West: “I’ll support him because he has been around Toledo for quite a long time and I know him better than all the others. I know his capacity, he has been very supportive of our people in the Toledo West and also Patrick Faber has shown a lot of leadership at the highest level, he has been the deputy leader of the party and also Patrick Faber knows Toledo West very well he has visited all the communities, almost all if not all and when he says he’s going to come he comes. He speaks to the people, he interacts with the people so the people here know him very well, very supportive of education and supportive of myself as the standard bearer and so because of that there is no way I can support anybody else. I will fully support and endorse Patrick Faber for the next leadership.”
Earlier this week we spoke with Shyne Barrow of the Mesopotamia division and Lee Mark Chang of Freetown. Both Standard Bearers have expressed support for Patrick Faber.
