There is still no set date for the general elections. All in all, it is dependent on the Prime Minister and his Cabinet to finalize a date. There is a lot to be done between now and then for all parties entering the race. For the UDP they need to find a leader to succeed Dean Barrow. UDP’s Chairman, Michael Peyrefitte spoke on this issue.
Hon. Michael Peyrefitte, Attorney General of Belize: “Our focus right now is to make sure that Belizeans are safe and COVID-19 free that’s our focus. We have put politics on the back burner because the physical health of Belizeans and the health of the economy right now those are the two primary focuses that we have. Naturally we are a political party, November is slated for the next elections to be held selecting a new leader and getting ready for that election coming up we will be ready for that. We will have our leader we will have our party battle ready for the next elections that we are not worried about, that will come with time. We believe that we have enough time to select a new leader, we believe we have enough time to get ready for the next general elections but for now the focus of the party and the government is to make sure that we keep Belizeans healthy and COVID free.”
