Who will be the next leader of UDP?

Deputy Prime Minister, Patrick Faber and the Minister of National Security, John Saldivar are contending to become the leader of the United Democratic Party.  This is not the first time the two have gone up against each other.  In 2016 Faber beat Saldivar at the polls to become the Deputy Leader. Today, when the media caught up with Minister Manuel Heredia, the media asked him who he would support for leadership.
Minister Manuel Heredia Jr.: “I will believe that we are a democratic country. I personally do not believe in conventions. I have to be very clear and I am thankful that the young guy that was challenging me has withdrawn his candidacy and for the interest of our party, for the interest of I believe all of us for the United Democratic Party particularly Belize Rural South. I believe that if there is a formula to sit down together and iron what is the way forward that’s the way it is supposed to be. If a convention is needed then let it be and I believe at the end of the day both of them to me are exceptional, intelligent young guys. I believe they have a bright future but let us see at the end of  the day on the 8th of February with the one that is more liked because like I said, both are good but at the end of the day only one can be a winner and after that only one is important but after that unity is most important.”
It remains to be seen whether Faber will be able to beat Saldivar once again, this time around for the leadership of the United Democratic Party.
