One of the requirements for the re-registration process is that the applicant must be living at their present address for at least two months. It is a requirement that automatically disqualifies Belizeans living abroad from voting in Belize. Caribbean Shores Area Representative, Kareem Musa recently put forward a proposed amendment to Section 5 (2)of the Representation of the People’s Act to enable Belizeans in the Diaspora to vote in the upcoming ICJ Referendum. Echoing Musa’s sentiments is the recently formed third party, Will of the People. In a release sent out today, they called on the Government of Belize to take immediate action in executing the proposed amendment.
