Will Stakebank Approval Lead to Legal Battle?

Will Stakebank Approval Lead to Legal Battle?

The Stakebank Project recently got the green light from the National Environmental Appraisal Committee (NEAC) and the Department of the Environment (DOE). However, the Briceño administration has indicated that because the company had applied for approval to construct a causeway under the Barrow administration, they needed to reapply for approval when the PUP took over Government. So, will this result in another legal battle? Today, Prime Minister, John Briceño, chimed in on this situation.

Hon. John Briceno, Prime Minister of Belize: “Cabinet has decided what we have said is that they are deciding whether it was approved or not and I’m sure that that’s going to end up in court if they build the causeway that somebody is going to take them to court for it to decide but again that is not for the Cabinet to decide that’s a matter from the NEAC or the Ministry of Environment that makes the decision.”
