Convicted murderer, William “Danny” Mason, is taking one more shot at getting his conviction overturned, by going to Belize’s highest appellate court. Today, Mason’s attorney confirmed that he will be appealing to the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) to overturn his conviction for the murder of Dangriga’s Pastor Llewellyn Lucas back in July 2016. Mason was found guilty of murder back in 2019 with the Court of Appeal upholding that very conviction back in July. Mason’s attorney, Senior Counsel Hubert Elrington Sr. explained where they are in the final appeal process.
Hubert Elrington, Attorney: “The 11th of July the Court of Appeal turned down his appeal for murder conviction so we’re now going to make final attempt to get the conviction set aside at the CCJ.”
Reporter: So what does this mean now ? The CCJ ?
Hubert Elrington, Attorney: “It means that we have to apply to the CCJ for leave to appeal that is the procedure and then they will set the time table.”
Mason is also awaiting a retrial in the Belmopan High Court, for kidnapping after the court declared a mistrial last month./
