Over the holiday weekend gun violence once again reared its ugly head in the rural community of La Democracia Village. Just after ten o’clock on Saturday night, 37-year-old Becky Estrada was shot inside the comfort of her home. Estrada and her family were in the living room when someone stood in front of her door and opened fire. As a result, Estrada received gunshot injuries to her hip and was rushed to the Western Regional Hospital where she remains in stable condition. At this time police believe that Estrada’s shooting is retaliation for the April 7 murder of 19-year-old Tyreak August which her 17-year-old son was charged with on April 12. Love News spoke to Commissioner of Police Chester Williams who says that the police and members of the Leadership Intervention Unit (LIU) are currently in the village holding mediations talks.
