Eleven days ago, we told you of 59-year-old Margaret Flores who said she was one of the forgotten ones in the Covid-19 Relief Programme. She explained that at the time she had no food in her house, no money and that she had trouble filling out the forms for assistance. Fast forward today and Flores is a grateful Belize City resident. We checked up on her today and found out that she got the help she needed from the Minister of Human Development, Social Transformation, and Poverty Alleviation, Anthony “Boots” Martinez. Flores says she believes that if she hadn’t gone on the news to highlight her situation she wouldn’t have received the help.
Margaret Flores, Needs Assistance: “I got assistance from Boots Martinez. He sent me to Wellworth and I got assistance from Orange Walk and from the states.”
Reporter: Okay. What did Wellworth give you ?
Margaret Flores, Needs Assistance: “Gave me rice, beans, sugar toilet paper, Clorox, two soap powder and two chicken and the young man from Orange Walk sent me a bible, a box of noodles, beans, black beans, red beans, Klim. The ones from the states sent me $200.”
Flores used to work alongside a food vendor, but since vendors are not allowed to operate, she has been out of a job. She also received assistance from total strangers in the United States, Orange Walk and other areas.
